*BZZZZZZZZZZ* Feel that? That’s your little buzzing motor, and for any haptic feedback project you’ll want to pick up a few of them. These vibe motors are tiny discs, completely sealed up so they’re easy to use and embed.

Two wires are used to control/power the vibe. Simply provide power from a battery or microcontroller pin (red is positive, blue is negative) and it will buzz away. Works from 2V up to 5V, higher voltages result in more current draw but also a stronger vibration.

    1. Permanent Magnets: Permanent magnets are the most commonly used type of magnet in vibration motors. These magnets are made from materials that retain their magnetism over a long period, such as neodymium (NdFeB) or samarium cobalt (SmCo). The permanent magnets used in vibration motors are typically cylindrical or disc-shaped, with a hole in the center for the motor’s shaft to pass through. These magnets are fixed to the motor’s housing or rotor and create a magnetic field that interacts with an electromagnetic coil to generate vibrations. Shaftless Vibration Motor Magnets Permanent Flat Dsc N48

    2. Electromagnets: Some vibration motors use electromagnets instead of permanent magnets. Electromagnets are made by winding a coil of wire around a ferromagnetic core. When an electric current passes through the coil, it creates a magnetic field that can be controlled by varying the current strength. By controlling the current flowing through the coil, the strength of the magnetic field can be adjusted, allowing for precise control over the vibrations generated by the motor.  Tiny Button Type Magnets For Shaftless Vibrating Motors N48

    Working Principle of Vibration Motors:

The working principle of vibration motors involves the interaction between permanent magnets and electromagnetic coils. When an electric current is passed through the coil, it generates a magnetic field. This magnetic field interacts with the permanent magnets, causing them to repel or attract each other depending on their polarity.  N42 Tiny Disc Magnets For Little Buzzing Vibe Motor

In most vibration motors, there is a rotating eccentric weight attached to the motor’s shaft. As the magnetic field interacts with the permanent magnets, it creates a force that causes the eccentric weight to rotate. This rotation generates vibrations, which are then transmitted to the device or equipment in which the motor is installed.

The frequency and intensity of the vibrations can be controlled by adjusting the current flowing through the coil or by changing the design of the eccentric weight. By varying these parameters, vibration motors can produce a wide range of vibration patterns and strengths to suit different applications.  N45 Disc Vibrating Mini Motor Magnet
