Cylindrical Permanent Magnetic Assemblies

MPCO offers a wide variety of cylindrical permanent magnetic assemblies. Our assemblies come in alnico, ceramic, magnets with thru-holes, magnets with bolts and loops, and retaining magnets. Alnico magnets are ideal for high heat applications and Ceramic magnet assemblies are the most economical typically. Alnico refers to a type of iron alloy magnets that are composed of mostly aluminum (Al), nickel (Ni), and cobalt (Co), which is how this type of magnet gets its name. Alnico magnets also include copper, of course iron, and sometimes titanium. These magnets are very resistant to losing their magnetism because they are ferromagnetic which makes them great permanent magnets.

CERAMIC 3-POLE MAGNETS
Sometimes referred to as “hard ferrite” permanent ceramic magnets contain magnetite, a hard crystalline iron ferrite mineral that derives its magnetism from the effect the earth’s magnetic field has on it. Ceramic permanent magnets are made from finely powdered barium ferrite or strontium ferrite formed under heat and pressure. Their magnetic strength is enhanced by aligning the powder particles with a strong magnetic field during forming. Ceramic magnets are comparable to Alnico magnets in terms of magnetic force and have the advantage of being able to be pressed into various shapes without significant machining as well as being the most economical magnetic material in terms of cost.

ALNICO MAGNET ASSEMBLIES – ISLAND 2 POLE
Alnico Island 2-Pole magnet housed in a steel cup. Especially effective in mold applications. Can not be press fit without additional insulation. Use bottom tapped hole for mounting purposes. +/- .005″ diameter & +/- .015″ length. Maximum temperature is 800 Fahrenheit (427C). Holding forces stated are shown at 50% of the actual tested value.

ALNICO MAGNET ASSEMBLIES – JACKET SHIELDED
Alnico magnetic material shielded in a brass sleeve, 1-Pole on each end. Insulator sleeve prevents a loss of magnetic flux when inserted into steel components or fixtures. Press fit style only. +/-.001″ diameter & +/- .005″ length. Maximum temperature is 800 Fahrenheit (427C). Holding forces stated are shown at 50% of the actual tested value. Thickness indicates sidewall thickness.

Alnico magnetic material shielded in a brass sleeve. Insulator sleeve prevents a loss of magnetic flux when inserted into steel components or fixtures. Press fit style only. +/-.001″ diameter & +/- .005″ length. Maximum temperature is 800 Fahrenheit (427C). Holding forces stated are shown at 50% of the actual tested value.

RETAINING MAGNETS
MPCO offers a wide selection of retaining magnets including flat and cylindrical magnets with threaded, smooth, and pass through holes as well as studded magnets, to cover all of your fixing methods. Retaining magnets are great for fixing an item in place without causing damage to the item it is holding. Some of our retaining magnets are coated in rubber to further protect the contact surface and to insure less damage over time. If you are screwing a magnet in place to hold the fixed items, do not use screws that are of magnetic material because it can potentially affect the forces of the magnet.
