Door Holding Magnet

Door holding magnets are used as locking devices for fire barriers to keep them in open state. Controlled by a smoke switch they release the door by disconnecting the power supply in case of fire hazard.

Door holding magnets of the MPCO are primarily used as locking devices of fire barriers (fire doors, fire gates, fire valves) to keep them in open state. In this respect the guidelines of the German Institute for Structural Engineering (Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik, DIBt) have to be observed.

They are also used for conventional doors, especially in shops and entrance areas, where they have to be kept open safely and reliably, with minimum power consumption and high holding force. The door is closed by pushing a circuit breaker to disconnect the power supply. For these applications 230 Volt AC (mains voltage) models are available which are easy to install and come with accessories.

When applied for fire-protection purposes central fire alarm systems resp. controlling smoke switches release the barriers by disconnecting the power supply if smoke is detected. Doors resp. barriers are automatically closed by means of door closers, thus preventing the spread of fire and smoke to the whole building. These applications are based on specific tests and approvals. As a leading manufacturer MPCO offers a full product range in compliance with the guidelines!

By its focus and market position MPCO also offers variants for ATEX areas (EX) – tested by the Physical Technical Federal Institution (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, PTB) – and for the maritime area (ship building and off-shore platforms) tested by the “Germanischer Lloyd”.

The holding magnet is mounted to the wall, the floor or the ceiling behind the door. Due to the diversity of types almost any requirement profile can be fulfilled. An armature plate mounted to the door serves as counterpart. Standard models, flexible angle settings and spring-damped variants (for heavy doors) are available.

MPCO stands for quality, efficiency and user-friendliness. Tested quality saves lives and is considered as the primary installation requirement. Door Holding Magnet
